Symbolism

I just started the book but on the first page of the first chapter they mention a tree called a laburnum which is in the artist, Basil Hallward's garden. All parts of the plant are poisonous and can be lethal if too much is consumed. i think that Oscar Wilde chose a firery and poisonous yet beautiful plant to symbolize how something can be so beautiful and mesmerising on the outside, almost unbearable, but on the inside its poisonous and can cause harm. Its also actually very common for people to put in gardens and this shows how people use things just for their outer beauty and put aside and ignore the actualy danger ans uselessness.

I like how you used that picture of the tree. Also I liked your description because it is very easy to understand. GOOD JOB

Beautiful but deadly. Nice catch with the symbolism.

So, how is the book by the witty Wilde?

Do you think Dorian is a villin, or anti-hero?

i agree with you. the part where the outside shows just the shallowest part of your inner meaning? somehow that didntn came out right. everything inside is what deeply describes yourself and the thought of expecting much more is what mesmerize yuorself to that object or him/her

I like how you picked up on some sumbolism so early on in the story. Also, gj for including a picture in the blog. And yea, beautiful on the outside yet deadly on the inside... sounds a lot like Mean Girls... so what if its a good movie? <.< >.>
